5 Useful Swedish phrases you might not know

Maybe you have already gone through the learning Swedish blog posts and now you are looking for some useful phrases that the traditional learning resources might not teach you; phrases that you only learn by spending time in Sweden.

Don’t worry - we’ve got your back. Here are 5 useful Swedish phrases to get you started.

Det behövs inte

”there’s no need for that”

You can say this when the cashier asks you if you need/want a receipt but you don’t want the receipt

Det finns inget dåligt väder bara dålig kläder.

”There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”

Maybe you can say this when someone is complaining about the weather. Don’t expect them to be too excited about it though ;)

Jag skulle vilja ha…

“I would like….”

When you are ordering food at a restaurant, you can start with this phrase then add the food you want to the end of it.

e.g. Jag skulle vilja ha en princesstårta.

Lagom är bäst

”Just right is best”

When describing how much cake you want, you can point out the amount - then say this phrase.

Borta bra men hemma bäst

“It’s nice to be away, but at home is best”

When you get back home to your loved ones from a vacation or work trip, then you can say this to them.
